BISP Units With World Food Programme (WFP) To Combat Malnutrition

The World Food Programme (WFP) and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) have partnered to fight malnutrition and broaden the reach of the Benazir Nashonuma program.

To that aim, BISP and the World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome have inked a two-year contract to prolong the Benazir Nashonuma Program, which is the biggest government-funded project in WFP history.

400,000 Beneficiaries Financially Supported By The Nashonuma Program

An official source claims that by supporting more than four million pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children under two years old, this collaboration helps BISP continue its mission to fight malnutrition in Pakistan.

Through teamwork, the program will contribute to the development of a healthier future for Pakistani children. Since the beginning, the World Food Programme (WFP) has been the principal implementing partner of the Benazir Nashonuma programme.

How Women Are Receiving Aid Under Benazir Nashonuma Program

The goal of the Benazir Nashonuma initiative is to combat stunting in pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and their under-two-year-old children by giving BISP beneficiary families an extra Rs. 2,500 per quarter for each boy child and PLW, and Rs. 3,000 per quarter for each girl child. Girls between the ages of 15 and 19 receive Rs. 1500.

Support For The People Of Flood-Affected Regions

Each PLW and boy child in the flood-affected districts receives Rs. 3500, and each girl child receives Rs. 4000. In exchange, women must eat specialized nutritious food (SNF), take their unborn children for routine checkups and vaccinations, and attend frequent prenatal health checkups and awareness seminars.

Importance Of BISP Agreement With WFP

The numbers show that Pakistan has significant rates of malnutrition (40.2 percent stunting, 28.9 percent underweight, and 17.7 percent wasting), which points to a continuing child nutrition crisis. This makes the partnership between BISP and WFP extremely vital for Pakistan. A child’s first 1,000 days of life present a unique chance to establish a solid foundation for future success. There is a great deal of change throughout this time, and the child’s cerebral development is quite flexible.

Early childhood investments lay the groundwork for human capital, which is a major factor in the modern economy’s economic development.

Conclusion

The 2-year agreement between BISP and the World Food Programme marks a significant step in fighting malnutrition among pregnant and lactating women in Pakistan. By extending financial support and providing nutritious food, the Benazir Nashonuma Program aims to create a healthier future for mothers and children, especially in flood-affected regions.
