Punjab CM Officially Inaugurated Punjab Tubewell Solarization 1st Phase:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Solarization of Agricultural Tubewells Project on February 1, 2025, which is a major step towards promoting sustainable agriculture in the province. This initiative comes after farmer welfare programs like the Kisan Card, agricultural mechanization, and other schemes, which are designed to improve the lives of Punjab’s farmers.

The Solarization Project will reduce costs, increase production, and usher in a new era for agriculture.

CM Orders Completion Of Solarization Project By June:

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target of June for the completion of the first phase of the solarization project of agricultural tube wells. She expressed confidence that the project will significantly reduce the cost of agricultural production and relieve farmers from energy costs.

The Chief Minister said that this initiative will not only improve the financial condition of Kisans but will also bring about a revolutionary change in agriculture in the entire province, which will prove to be an important step towards sustainable and modern agriculture.

Maryam Nawaz Announced Selected Farmers Via Balloting:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Agricultural Tube Well Solarization Project in Lahore, which was implemented through a balloting. Addressing the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz announced that the successful farmers in this project will be selected through a lottery system. Maryam Nawaz conducted the first draw, in which the name of farmer Muhammad Nawaz Kankla from Attock district of Punjab came first, who got the honor of being selected for solarization of agricultural tube wells. On this occasion, she also checked the list of farmers from Narowal district of Punjab.

The Chief Minister said that this project will facilitate farmers in reducing energy costs and increasing agricultural production. This initiative will not only prove to be a ray of new hope for the farmers of Punjab but also an important step towards revolutionizing the agricultural sector.

8000 Tubewells To Be Solarized In The First Phase:

Maryam Nawaz was informed by the concerned authorities that in the first phase of this project, 8,000 agricultural tube wells across Punjab will be converted to solar energy. This conversion will be done through a lottery. This move will reduce the cost of agricultural production and relieve farmers of energy costs, which will improve their finances.

Govt Aim Fiscal Savings For Farmers Through This Initiative:

Farmers are expected to save big from this Solarization project. This project is expected to bring huge savings to farmers. An average farmer will save more than Rs.10,000 per day and more than Rs. 350,000 per month through solar tube wells.

This change will significantly reduce the cost of agricultural production, which will improve the financial condition of farmers and bring them prosperity. The use of solar energy will save farmers from the rising cost of energy, and it will reduce their farming costs, making them financially stable.

530,000 + Farmers Applied For The Solarization Project:

She highlighted that over 530,000 farmers had applied for the project, out of which 385,000 were declared eligible for the lottery. The farmers who are successful in this lottery will select a vendor in their area and get their solar system installed.”

This means that a lot of farmers had applied for this project, but only a few of them have been successful in the lottery. This will provide them with solar energy for agriculture, which will reduce their costs.

87% Dieseled Tubewells To Be Shifted To Solar Energy:

About 87% of the tubewells that are currently powered by diesel and electricity will be converted to solar energy, significantly reducing the dependence on non-renewable energy sources. 87% of the agricultural tubewells powered by diesel and 13% of the tubewells powered by electricity will be converted to solar energy.

This means that most of the tubewells that are currently powered by diesel and electricity will now be converted to solar energy. This will not only reduce the costs for farmers but also reduce the negative impact on the environment, as solar energy will be used instead of non-renewable energy sources.

Punjab Offers Subsidy Up to Rs10 Lakh To Farmers On Solar Powered System:

The Punjab government will provide financial assistance to farmers for installing solar systems. Through this subsidy, farmers will get an opportunity to get solar systems at a low cost. For example, if a farmer installs a 10 kW solar system, he will get a subsidy of Rs. 5 lakh, for a 15 kW system, Rs. 7.5 lakh, and for a 20 kW system, a subsidy of up to Rs. 1 million will be provided. This will make the use of solar energy more accessible and affordable for farmers.
