BISP Latest Update: Govt Providing Direct Cash Instead Of Subsidize
As we all know the government of Pakistan has passed the order to shut down all the utility stores within 2 weeks, which means that the poor people who are receiving the food items and their monthly rashan at low prices can no longer benefit from it, therefore as an alternate to this relief the Federal government has announced a new payment system for all the 8171 eligible beneficiaries so that they can not be left alone in this difficult time.
Govt Plans Closure Of Utility Stores Nationwide
The Pakistani government recently announced that they are thinking about closing all of the country’s energy stores, claiming that doing so would simply drive up costs and that they also wanted to close any unnecessary businesses. The Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) secretary declared on Friday that the government was considering closing all of the country’s utility retailers.
Why The Government is Closing Utility Stores In Pakistan?
Several senators attending the Standing Committee on Industries and Production meeting on Friday raised their voices on the topic of closing utility stores with Industries and Production Secretary Saif Anjum. The government has not yet decided on its total closure or devolution to the provinces, according to the secretary, who stated that the issue was being discussed with the cabinet.
Employees Of Utility Stores Will Be Transfer To Other Institutions
Currently, the USC runs more than 4,000 stores around the nation.
In response to a query during the meeting, Secretary Saif Anjum stated that efforts were underway to move the utilities shop staff members to other organizations. He declared, “Government wants to get out of non-essential businesses,” adding that helping utilities stores outcompeted other firms.
More Than 60,000 Employment Is At Risk!
Aon Abbas Buppi, the chair of the Senate standing committee, described it as a “very sad day for the country” in remarks to the media. He said the government did not have a plan when he asked them about their plans for the employees of the utility stores, noting that the decision would result in the unemployment of about 60,000 workers. He added that what would happen to thousands of employees remains unclear.
Conclusion
The government’s decision to replace utility store subsidies with direct cash transfers aims to provide BISP beneficiaries with more flexibility in purchasing essential items. However, the closure of over 4,000 utility stores nationwide raises concerns about the future of 60,000 employees at risk of unemployment.
