Sindh Governor Urges for Punjab-Style Relief in Electricity Bills

Governor Kamran Tessori asked Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to declare the Punjab government-like relief in energy prices on Sunday, fearing a “sense of despair” among the people of Sindh.

Like Punjab, “Sindh CM [Murad Ali Shah] should provide a relief of Rs14 per unit in electricity bills,” he declared, warning that denying it would make people feel hopeless.

Tessori also voiced concern about the disastrous effects that the heavy rains had in several areas of Sindh, pointing out that the destruction had left many without a place to live.

MQM Urges Sindh Govt To Provide Punab-like Relief in Bills  

Farooq Sattar drew attention to the fact that the Sindh government has not yet taken comparable action, but the Punjab government—led by Maryam Nawaz—has given its customers a relief of Rs. 14 per unit in power costs.

The leader of the MQM-P voiced worries about the ongoing rise in electricity costs and the ongoing load shedding in Karachi, which he claimed was discriminatory against the people living there. He criticized the recent increase in power prices for Karachi residents, pointing out that certain sectors were now paying as high as Rs 50 to Rs 55 per unit.

Karachi Electricity Price Hike: 200-Unit Consumers Exempted for Three Months

According to the Power Division’s announcement, Karachi residents who use up to 200 units monthly are also affected by the increase in energy prices; however, they will not be affected if they have been exempt from the increase for the previous three months.

The federal government requested a raise in the base power pricing for domestic consumers of up to Rs7.12 per unit, which was granted by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) last week.
