BISP Starts New SOPRAN Project For Girls In 7 Districts Of Country

Here is one of the latest updates by the 8171 BISP Program for all the eligible people and poor families the BISP is now starting a new project by the name of SOPRAN for adolescent girls to promote their nutritional growth and provide substantial food supplements to them so that they can overcome all the environmental and physical diseases. As a starting Phase the BISP covers seven important districts in Pakistan and then as the project gains popularity and success it will soon prevail across Pakistan.

Benazir SOPRAN Project Launched By BISP

On Monday, the National Steering Committee for the Adolescent Girls’ Nutrition project met for the first time as part of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

The purpose of the meeting, which was chaired by Naveed Akbar, Director General BISP (NSER/CCT), was to talk about the SOPRAN project, which uses social protection programs to improve the nutrition of teenage girls and gives them the tools they need to become change agents in their communities.

With this New initiative, teenage girls will be able to play a significant role as change agents in their families, enhancing family nutrition through increased awareness, better eating habits, and intergenerational communication.

Main Participent Of SOPRAN Project 

The main participants included representatives from GIZ, Nutrition International, CERP, the provincial Departments of Education and Health, the Food Authorities, and other national and international partners.

Importance Of SOPRAN Project For The Health Of Adolescent Girls

As the meeting was presided over by the BISP Director General, Naveed Akbar, therefore he underlined how vital it is to address the pervasive malnutrition that affects Pakistan’s teenage girls. This program is vital and relevant since more than half of girls are afflicted with anemia, and a large percentage also suffer from other micronutrient deficiencies.

The Director General emphasized that the project’s goal was to successfully integrate nutrition into social protection through the use of iron-folic acid supplements. Cross-sectoral collaboration in health, education, and social protection was also deemed crucial to the project’s success.

SORPAN Project Launched In 7 District Of Pakistan 

Here is the list of 7 districts in Pakistan in which the BISP will start its New “SORPAN” Project:

  • Shaheed Benazirabad, 
  • Quetta, 
  • Kotli, 
  • Skardu, 
  • and Islamabad

In these areas, BISP intends to offer community-driven behavior modification programs, access to foods that have been fortified, and thorough nutrition education.

Key Partners Discuss SOPRAN Goals Nutrition Improvements

Dr. Franz von Roenne of GIZ and other important partners presented the specific project goals, which included supplying iron and folate supplements, enhancing the nutritional value of wheat flour, and developing the ability of regional players in the fields of nutrition, health, and education.

The talks also looked at how to sustainably include dietary supplements in regional food systems. Naveed Akbar emphasized in his closing remarks the necessity of continuous cooperation and district- and province-level coordination to guarantee the project’s success.
